I am a resident of Missaukee County and was a police officer from 1990 through June of 2011. I worked for the Missaukee Co. Sheriff office for 17 years from June of 1994 til June of 2011 under the current sheriff James Bosscher. Now I could tell you all sorts of things that went on within that department in those 17 years, but after having met and talked with Mr. Baker, he would not approve of that type of campaign. But what I can tell you is that having worked under sheriff Bosscher for that number of years, and having only met and talked with Mr. Baker over the last month or so, it did not take long to see that between these two people, I have greater respect for Mark Baker than I ever did after 17 years of working for James Bosscher. Mark Baker was far more concerned with helping and protecting ALL the citizens of Missaukee County, than the sitting sheriff ever was. Now a lot of people question what qualifications does Mr. Baker have to be sheriff. Let me remind every one that the office of sheriff is a political one and does not require any law enforcement background what so ever. So when the sitting sheriff says that he is qualified because he has been a police officer for 38 years 24 of those years as the sheriff of Missaukee County it does not mean a lot. Mr. Baker served 20 years in the Air Force. I myself served in the army and when you reach the rank of sergeant you start to receive command level training. Mr. Baker knows what it is like to command and lead men. He knows how to motivate men to be the best they can be, and he knows how to discipline men if necessary. He has the character, the fortitude, the ethics, the leadership skills and the drive needed which is far more important to the position of sheriff than if he knows how to write a ticket. I was once told by a sergeant in the army when he found out that my main goal was to be a police officer, that it is easier to teach a person the laws of a state and country than it is to teach that person how to survive a gun battle and go home at night to his family. The military prepares its people to do just that, a do not quit attitude, to drive on against all odds and still be standing when the dust clears. That is Mark Baker. That is the man who stood up against the DNR and the State of Michigan and when that dust cleared he was the only one standing! That is the man who would be your sheriff your protector. That is the man I choose to follow and vote for.
